Does The Job, Chipboard Board with Laminate Top A Downside

** Pros **
I was able to cut through 8 sheets of paper fairly easily. Note, however, that it requires a little exertion to cut through 10 or more sheets. The cutting blade is very sharp and is self-sharpening. The manual says each cut actually sharpens the blade so the blade never gets dull. The trimmer makes nice clean cuts and is able to cleanly shave off the tiniest piece from the edge of the paper. It is built very sturdy, and the Swingline brand name promises exceptional durability and performance. The trimmer looks sharp (pun not intended) and will make a handsome addition to the stationery in your home or office.

** Cons **
The guard rail is about an inch from the cutting edge, so this cutter might not be suited for very small jobs. The board on the trimmer is not constructed from solid wood but from a chipboard slab. The top is laminated to make the board look like solid wood. (As an upside, however, the markings are clearly printed and the la minate is so realistic looking that initially I thought the board was made of solid wood). The underside of the trimmer is somewhat crudely constructed (Can you say fussy?).

** Conclusion **
Functionally, this trimmer gets a resounding 5-stars! Construction-wise, I wish the board was made of solid wood. Also, the guard rail gets in the way of very small jobs. All in all, the Swingline ClassicCut Guillotine Paper Trimmer is a really good paper trimmer, and considering the price, it is a good value for your money! If the specifications meet your needs, I would definitely recommend it.

Great for home and business use (UPDATED)

I bought this for my wife and I, as we both own businesses and we needed something to occasionally cut paper for gift certificates and marketing materials. We use this in a light duty kind of way, and for that it works PERFECTLY.

It was very fairly priced, and feels to be better crafted then more expensive units we priced in stores. Its very high quality, sturdy, and cuts like a laser. It does not feel cheap whatsoever. I believe it will last us indefinitely.

I recommend this product if your looking for an affordable, quality, light to medium duty paper cutter. I honestly don't think you'll find a better product for less money.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention it is made by Swingline, which makes some great products. I didnt realize this until I opened it, and I'm very please it is!

I wrote my original review on this product in December 201 0. I've now owned this cutter for a total of 1 year, 9 months.

It still cuts and looks as good as the day we received it. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and the price I paid. If you're looking for a quality, sharp, accurate paper trimmer; this unit is definately highly recommend by me.

I'm a very pleased, very impressed, and very satisfied customer.

Perfect for home/office/craft use and Swingline Customer Service is EXCELLENT!

I purchased the Swingline ClassicCut 15 inch guillotine paper trimmer from Amazon in July 2009 for use in my home-based business of personalized note cards and greeting cards. This solid-built trimmer easily and cleanly cuts through 3 sheets of heavy card stock with little effort. However, the measurements on my trimmer were the tiniest bit off and slightly less than perfectly square. It was so close that I blamed the card stock rather than the trimmer. By January 2010 when I confirmed that the cutter was to blame, it was too late to return to Amazon. On a whim, I contacted Swingline via their website and told them of my dilemna. With no questions asked and without prodding from me, Swingline sent me a brand new replacement. It is, of course, perfect! I will continue to buy Swingline products because I believe the problem with my original trimmer was extremely rare. But more importantly, to reward their outstanding Customer Service.
